About the church of Christ that meets at McRoberts...

Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the body of Christ. God wills that all men be saved. (2Pe 3:9)

Salvation is only found in Christ. His sinless life ended by giving himself as a atonement for sinful man. Nearly 2,000 years ago, this man of Galilee walked the earth, said many things and by his life and death changed the world forever. He claimed to be more than a mere man; he said he was the son of God and that He was with the Father from the beginning of time (John 1:1, 14; Matt. 1:21). To prove those claims, he performed miracles of healing (Matt 8:13) and showed his power over nature by calming storms (Mark 4:39) and even raised the dead (John 11:43). The ultimate proof of his claims was that he was raised from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion (Matt 28:6.)

He said he was going to die and be risen again and it happened just as he said (Matt. 26:61). He made many disciples, some of who would die telling the story of the crucifixion of the Savior and his resurrection (Acts 7:59 The Lord had commanded his apostles to, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). This Gospel was what would save men from the horror of sin; it was the power of God unto salvation (Rom 1:16).

As these men fulfilled that great commission, those that believed their message responded by gladly receiving the Word and by being baptized for the remission of their sins: "Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?' Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.  And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation. Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them."(Acts 2:37-38, 41)

These converts from several nations, banded together in accordance with the Lord's command and became a congregation to worship and work together after God's ordinances: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers" Acts 2:42). They were known simply as the church (Col 1:18), or the Lord's church (Acts 20:28), the church Christ (Rom 16:16). They were followers of Christ and were called simply, Christians: "... And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch (11:26).

The church of Christ that meets in McRoberts is a congregation patterned after this New Testament blueprint. Terms of church membership are taught exactly as they were taught by the Apostles 2,000 years ago. The same Gospel taught by Paul and Peter and John and all the inspired men are taught in Bible classes and from the pulpit. If the Gospel of Christ was the power of God unto salvation 2,000 years ago can there be any question that it will still save accountable men and women today? The Apostle Paul wrote, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes..." (Rom 1:16).

Every soul needs to seek salvation and be made the friend of God because, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from the God of heaven (Isaiah 59:1-2) and the Gospel is God's remedy for the problem. If we die in our sins, then we must spend an eternity away from the presence of God in flaming fire of hell (Matthew 25:41). We should be thankful to God that he provided a sacrifice for our sins and revealed the terms of pardon in the Bible so all can have the opportunity to be saved. It is extremely important for all of us to learn the simple Gospel plan of salvation if we want to go to heaven when this life is over. It makes no difference how moral or religious a person maybe, we still need to know the truth as revealed in God's Holy Word, the Bible. We need to hear Christ in all things (Acts 3:22).

To that end, the church of Christ that meets at McRoberts comes together three times weekly for services. We meet at 10 a.m. for Bible study; 10:45 a.m. for worship services; and 6:00 p.m. for services on Sunday. We also meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. for Bible study, so we can all come to a better knowledge of the truth that saves and worship in spirit and in truth, (John 4:24). Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Our every act of worship is described and set forth in the New Testament. We sing; pray; preach; observe the Lord’s Supper; and give on the first day of the week. We give book, chapter, and verse for everything we believe and practice. You may rest assured that with your help and diligence in the study of God's word, we may all come to a proper understanding of the will of God in our lives (2Timothy 2:15).

We all stand on the threshold of eternity. You and I will be in eternity either in the presence of God and his holy ones or forever separated from the face of God (Matthew 25:34, 41). We hope you will avail yourself of a golden opportunity to visit with us and to hear the Gospel of Christ that can save your soul.

Perhaps you have said, "I intend to visit the services sometime." But you have put it off simply because of the dread of going into a strange place, not knowing what to expect. Many people hesitate to visit a church unless they know what it will be like when they go. Perhaps we can help you know what to expect when you visit.

WHAT NOT TO EXPECT…

Don't expect to be embarrassed. You will visit us as a welcome and respected guest. You will be greeted with kindness and courtesy. No person will approach you in such a manner as to embarrass you. There will be nothing to make you wish you hadn't come, or make you feel out of place. The church comes together to worship God in spirit and in truth and to do all things in decency and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40). You will be taught and encouraged to seek the salvation of your soul through obedience to Jesus Christ.

Don’t expect to be forced to respond or come up front - We offer the simple teaching of God’s Word and believe that each individual must make a commitment to God. Each individual will stand before God and each individual must choose to make the commitment to obey. The choice to obey will be yours to make. We are drawn to God when we are taught His Word (John 6:44-45).

Don't expect to be entertained - We offer no bands or talent shows. No refreshments will be served. Our purpose is to worship God in the way He has directed (John 4:24). You will hear scriptures read or truths preached that you are familiar with. We encourage you to open your Bible and take notes - asking any questions that may arise from our studies together. Plan to join us in gaining a greater knowledge of the Bible.

Don't expect to be asked for money - The church depends on the local members only for financial support. We do not have fundraisers or solicit money from the public to support the work of the church. Each Lord’s Day every member of the Body of Christ gives as they have been prospered so that the financial responsibilities of the church can bet met (1Corinthians 16:1-2).

WHAT TO EXPECT…

Expect the worship to be simple and devout - Since our purpose is to be governed in all acts of worship by the Bible alone, our worship consists of only those elements which were part of the worship of the early church. We sing spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19), we pray often (Acts 2:42), partake of the Lord's Supper each Sunday (Acts 20:7), teach God's Word (Acts 20:7), and give as we have been prospered (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). We seek to maintain the attitude Christ enjoined when He said, "God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth," (John 4:24).

Expect congregational singing - Our singing, to many visitors is a very inspirational part of the worship, deserves a special word. Since the New Testament instructs Christians to sing in worship, (Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16), we encourage everyone to sing. You will probably be familiar with most of the hymns we sing and are invited to join with us in the singing. Our visitors are often astonished at how beautiful and spiritually stirring it is when, unaided by mechanical instruments, all worshippers sing to praise God.

Expect to find Christians only - We wear no distinctive name that would divide Bible believers. We submit to no religious authority other than the inspired scriptures.< Thus, by following only the teachings of Christ and His Apostles, we are simply Christians (Acts 11:26), just as His disciples were in the first century.

Expect to find a friendly spirit and atmosphere - We believe that friendliness is a natural attribute of God's people (Prov 18:20). Our visitors, who always receive a warm welcome, appreciate the courtesy and cordiality of the Christians at McRoberts.

Now that you know us better, we hope you will come and be with us during our services.
